A Hartcopy Commentary on Fall/Winter 2023 Footwear

Looking to follow up on the immense splash made by last year’s footwear launches, Moncler has unveiled a comprehensive array of products for Fall/Winter 2023. The new line-up simultaneously consolidates the successes of the Trailgrip through new color design, while introducing new silhouettes that push boundaries even further.

First and foremost, the Trailgrip GTX is reintroduced in a number of color options for men and women; cobalt blue, candy floss pink, and turquoise, to name but a few. The standard iteration of the model is seconded by the Trailgrip Teddy, a version overhauled to feature sherpa panelling across the midfoot and heel, which comes in two vastly different hues, the first being an understated, natural beige, and the second an attention-demanding fuchsia. All of this is done while conserving the Trailgrip’s high-function carbon plates and Vibram traction. Later comes the Trailgrip Knit, another tastefully made reinterpretation of the signature silhouette, one that utilises a knit upper — a first for Moncler — for an alternative look.

Moncler’s Fall/Winter collection is complemented by two headlining collaborations on the Trailgrip. First, Salehe Bembury’s take on the Trailgrip (titled Trailgrip ‘Grain’) adds in the creative’s hallmark signatures as well as some colorful charm. A complex material blend, presented in three color options, comes intricately designed and well thought out, a true coming together of footwear design pedigree. Second is a pioneering “3D” edition of the Trailgrip created in partnership with Zellerfield, a 3D-printed one-piece sneaker crafted out of a thermoplastic mono-material. The result is an innovative product, one that pushes the Trailgrip in a whole different direction. Utilised primarily as an invitation to the brand’s Studio Ascenti footwear showroom held in Paris in July, the pair is currently in development for a wider launch in the future.

Completing the ensemble is a duo of boots, the Peka Trek and the Gaia Pocket. The latter incorporates the iconic texture and design sensibilities of the Maya jacket with the traditional do-it-all ideology of a winter boot, and aims to please at aprés-ski. For Fall/Winter, a knee-high reiteration accompanies the standard edition for the first time. The Peka Trek is a final flourish, a traditional hiking boot equipped with materials and colorways that bring it into the fashion realm. As with the remainder of Moncler’s diverse crop of products, homage is paid to the brand’s history in performance, while steps are taken to place each product in the lifestyle realm.

All in all, Moncler’s Fall/Winter 2023 array is a cohesive collection that furthers Trailgrip's uncompromising design philosophy, with an assortment of additional products which are just as strong. It’s a culmination of cutting edge design from a host of talented creatives both in-house and external. Well and truly, Moncler cements its name in footwear.
